2.2 Mindset
Respondents in this segment were more strongly focused in the present than the ‘Greens’, with a weaker future orientation and, when considered, a more local view.  They showed some sense of personal responsibility for environment, but this was focused more on themselves rather than for broader society and was motivated by a desire to maintain their chosen lifestyle and ethics, which were broadly apolitical.  Some demonstrated a strong alternative ethical attachment, such as hippy or pagan tendencies, whilst others demonstrated a strong attachment to the Welsh country lifestyle.

“I think we need to leave the environment alone a lot more. I think the planet is an ever changing organism that will adapt and protect itself, it always has done and it always will. Humanity - we’re causing a lot of damage, but we’re just another part of the cycle. I think standing back and allowing the planet to protect itself is important, rather than stripping it of all those powers and thinking we’re better at it. It controls us”
[Female, E, 26-35, Single/Young Family, Rural, Powys - IG]
“When you move to an ‘alternative’ area, hanging out with different people and going to different shops, that you realise that there are all these other alternative things
